The stock market had a strong year in 2024, with the S&P 500 surging about 23% to record highs, extending the strong gains seen in 2023.

It's the first time the index posted back-to-back annual returns of more than 20% since the late 1990s.

The S&P 500 finished the year within 4% of its all-time high, and most Wall Street strategists expect the gains to continue into 2025.

While a 23% jump sounds nice, some S&P 500 companies more than quintupled those gains.
